The fish illustration travels from the crown into the wide brim, so the drawing changes as the hat turns. Each piece is painted individually rather than reproduced as an identical print.

Fine contours, crosshatching and the stitched brim meet at close range. Small differences in linework and placement are part of the hand-painted finish.
